Material point simulations as a basis for determining Johnson–Cook hardening parameters via instrumented scratch tests

Scratch tests are a powerful and inexpensive tool for studying the mechanical properties of materials. The typically applied determining deformation behavior materials serves as quality assessment method measuring adhesion delamination coatings. However, extraction quantitative material parameters using scratch remains highly non-trivial and, contrary to instrumented indentation or tensile testing, limited number procedures available so far hardening Such enormous relevance, since they allow non-destructive determination constitutive models commonly used in computer simulations thin films, coatings, surface changes due loading.
